On October 17th, 2008, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCC) hosted its18th Annual Convention Expo & Career Fair at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ. It was an exciting business networking experience in which students and professionals from both private and public organizations gathered together to discuss business and career opportunities. The event included a series of workshops, conducted by experts, and aimed at supporting business initiatives within the Latin American Community. The workshops focused on numerous topics including Guarantee Loans, Micro Loans, Franchising Opportunities, Home-Ownership and Financial Literacy.

The purchasing power of the Hispanic Community has been increasing significantly in the recent years, making this market niche appealing to both domestic and international companies. Consequently, the demand for professional employees with this ethnic background has increased rapidly in the last five years.

For Montclair State University, this was the 4th consecutive year of participation in the Annual Convention of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This year, Professor Luis San Vicente Portes, along with four undergraduate and graduate students, represented the International Business Department of the University at the Convention.

The Annual Convention Expo & Career Fair was a success and the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey proved again its important role in facilitating linkages amongst community members and promoting economic development and business opportunities in the United States.
