Globalization and regional integration, such as that of the ASEAN economic community, are being witnessed in Asia and some other emerging economies. Simultaneously, global networks, knowledge hubs, ICT and cross border innovation are significantly altering the landscape of businesses. There is a growing recognition that economic growth and social development do not take place in a balanced manner. Human capital investment and entrepreneurship will play a significant role in the development process. Countries that invest in their human capital will be able to sustain their competitive advantage. There are some key questions that challenge policy makers and practitioners and require empirical evidence and practice based insights. How would each country manage its talent at different levels in the economy? How do MNCs and domestic firms contribute to the development and advancement of human resource management while retaining the wisdom and practices of the local cultures? How can leadership be developed and nurtured among different actors like businesses, public institutions, and civil society organizations in the globalization era? How will ICT environment impact/enhance/disturb the HRM practices? How do innovative HRM practices contribute to the growth of business organizations?
The focus of articles in EBHRM is that they will be evidence-based and focused on important developments in the HR area. Manuscripts that demonstrate empirical robustness and analytical rigor are welcome. Original research papers, empirical case studies and reviews of the body of empirical research endeavor are encouraged.
In this Special Issue, research topics include but not limited to:
Strategic human resource management and organizational innovation, performance management for productivity in emerging economies; human capital building, ICT, HRM and organizational effectiveness; managing HR in MNCs; comparative industrial relations; HRM in rapid growth contexts, gender diversity, wage differentials and professional women’s career development, women in management and boards, HRM in rapid growth organizations and HRM practices and innovative work behavior.

In the era of the Internet, there is a tremendous growth in collaborative activities, like building open source software and Wikipedia, procuring funding from people for creative projects, sourcing design and innovation ideas, amongst others. Many of these are driven by the intrinsic motivation of contributors who have resources of time and digital connectivity. In other cases these efforts are driven by contributors who are seeking financial or reputational gain by making contributions.
Even as we hear stories of very successful crowd-sourcing or crowd-funding efforts, we also hear stories of projects that did not succeed or were dubious to start with. Further, many of these projects seem to be located in developed countries, with few stories from developing countries or from those who are at the margins of society.
The challenge for academics is to seek out whether such collaboration efforts are valuable for developing regions and whether they are sustainable. Some questions that may be investigated are: Do global collaboration efforts succeed in developing countries? What are the kinds of collaboration efforts that are being experimented with? How are organizations seeking innovation through open collaboration? What are the key issues in ensuring success of an open collaboration project? Do the benefits of collaboration reach the poor and marginal populations? How does the digital divide impact the process of innovation and collaboration? What is the nature of contributors to collaboration projects in developing regions?
