I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Elrie LaBrent Chrite as the Dean of the School of Business, effective January 2010. Dr. Chrite will be joining us from the University of Arizona where he is Associate Dean and Gemelli Faculty Fellow of the Eller College of Management. Prior to the University of Arizona, Dr. Chrite held several positions at University of Michigan, beginning as an administrator in the University of Michigan hospital system and moving on to the Business School as Director of Administrative Services, Director of the African Business Development Corps, Executive Director of the South Africa Initiatives Office, Managing Director of the William Davidson Institute and Assistant Dean for Global Development.
At Arizona Dr. Chrite led a reorganization of the Eller College full-time MBA and successfully introduced an Executive MBA to the regional market, which also entailed the construction of a new branch campus facility. He sponsored the creation of joint degree programs between business and medicine, engineering, optics, public health, agriculture and planning. Eller programs have expanded under his tenure into Mexico and South Africa; he notes, "I am manifestly committed to globalizing the lens through which students and faculty consider business and management education." Dr. Chrite earned his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan after acquiring an M.S. from The University of Missouri-Columbia and his B.A. from Michigan State University.
Interim Dean William Turner will continue in that position through the Fall semester and planning for the new building will continue to move forward. Please join me in extending a warm and generous Montclair State welcome to Dr. Chrite.
